Tamara Rafkin is an American / Belgian artist that works across various mediums. With an extensive background in photography than spans three decades, she has also been creating in ceramics for the past ten years. Most recently, she has been exploring the idea of transformational artworks that cross mediums and lend themselves to installation artworks. Being drawn to her subject matter by both personal narrative and an interest in cultural anthropology / philosophy her works explore emotion, public spaces and the imprint people leave behind on them.
Ms. Rafkin’s works have been exhibited across several continents and are part of many private and public collections. Most recently her work has been seen as part of “Chrysalistasis“ curated by James Austin Murray for Lyons Wier Gallery last summer and the premier of her participatory installation “Dust to Dust” was at Holland Tunnel Gallery for Newburgh’s Open Studios 2020. This year she is honored to be one of ten Belgian artists being showcased for 2021 at the Residence of the Belgian Consulate in NYC.
