The Alice Desmond Gallery presents: “What Once Was” a solo show of paintings by Newburgh artist Rachel Williams. The show exhibit paintings from the past up to her most recent work. Each piece is a quiet moment in time. In these moments, we make connections with ourselves and others. It is a time for reflecting on past memories or looking forward to the days ahead.  Memories of childhood, relationships with loved ones who have passed, relationships with friends, life choices, and more.

Painting on a variety of surfaces including canvas, burlap, wood, paper doilies, library cards, sheet music, and vintage paper evokes a feeling of nostalgia. Each painting surface is carefully paired with its subject to capture that memory or emotion in time.

The Opening Reception will feature a live performance by Jazz musician Robert Kopek and a dessert table prepared and served by CIA graduate Hasina Grice of Perfect Sweets Inc.

The reception will take place at Alice Desmond Center for Community Enrichment/Town of Newburgh Recreation on Sunday, August 7, from 1-3 pm. For Alice Desmond Gallery hours please call 845-565-1326. The Center is located at 6 Albany Post Road, Newburgh NY.
