Heidi Lanino is an abstract figurative painter and a graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Her artistic practice also includes drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and ceramics. Her work is characterized by expressive lines and shapes, influenced by various cultures, and the combination of both figurative and abstract elements. She lives and works in the Hudson Valley, NY.
Drawing from the figure inside out; part of a series of abstract works, sensually dynamic and rhythmic depictions of the figure in movement explore gestural lines, strokes, and marks that become the subject matter itself, revealing the kinesthetic beauty and strength of the body in motion. I begin these pieces with my eyes closed drawing with both hands allowing the figure to find its form. Then working back into the piece by erasing, drawing, and erasing again.
